Reports surfaced early this month that President Barack Obama and family will be renting a home in the Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, DC. However, according to recent reports, the Obamas now have a home in California as well.
The family is staying in DC until their youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school, but the family has reportedly purchased a home in Rancho Mirage, California. The neighborhood isn’t far from where other former presidents have been known to vacation.
Gerald Ford retired to Rancho Mirage. Beyond that, the neighborhood is a top destination for golf — one of President Obama’s favorite pastimes.
This won’t be the first time the Obamas have come to California either. This location was frequented by the first family throughout the presidency. Approximately 92% of people now use the Internet to start their home searches, but the Obamas are already familiar with the location through their multiple visits over the years.
There aren’t many details of the California home so far, but if the $4.3 million home in Kalorama is any indication, it’s certainly going to be beautiful. It was previously reported that the family was looking at a $4.25 million home in the area, but those reports were proven false at the time.
The California home is new news to many, but some local California papers have been speculating about this move for over a year. The family’s reasons for visiting the Coachella Valley were unclear, but now it seems that the papers were on to something.
Interior designer Michael S. Smith has been hired to decorate the house in DC, and will reportedly be in charge of interior design for the California home, as well. He helped the first family decorate the White House and also currently resides in Rancho Mirage.
In addition to the homes in both California and DC, reports have been circulating that the first family has purchased a home in Hawaii, which is Barack Obama’s home state.
